Homemade Irish Cream

I love Irish Cream and was thrilled when I found this recipe for a homemade version! ย Not only that but I get equally excited when I find a new recipe that will make a good hostess gift and this is definitely one of those recipes. It tastes better than Bailey’s and couldn’t be easier to make.

Homemadeย Irish Cream

Ingredients

1 cup milk
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup Irish whiskey
1 teaspoon strong coffee
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a blender, combine milk, sweetened condensed milk, Irish whiskey, coffee, chocolate syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend on high for 20 to 30 seconds. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. Shake well before serving.

I found your recipe on Pinterest, thank you! I’ve been giving these as hostess gifts this holiday season. I’ve been using mason jars, with twine around the neck and write the recipe on craft paper and they look really cute. I found some great coffee mugs at Anthropologie last night and stocked up. What a great gift idea all year long! Thanks a ton. Have a great holiday and fabulous 2013!

I’ve been making this for years, and I can assure you, it’s ALWAYS a hit! The most perfect hostess gift! I make so much of this around the holidays, that I shop all year round for cool bottles. I have had great luck at Hobby Lobby for cool colored glass bottles, and my best scores have been at Goodwill of all places! You can find some REALLY cool bottles there! Run them through your dishwasher and they’re all sanitized! The bottle gets you the initial WOW factor, until they indulge in it’s contents of course! Happy drinking, and THANK YOU for posting!

I noticed some other recipes for baileys calls for eggs….why is that? Does anyone know?

OMG! This would be the perfect present for my greek friend. He makes greek ice-coffee with baileys, every day!
And fiy: I’m from Holland, and we can buy these bottles at Ikea’s for just € 0,99.
And you can make your own condenced milk: just mix 7 oz. sugar, 7 oz. powdered milk, about 3oz. warm water and 1 tablespoon butter together in a blender for a few seconds and let it rest for at least one hour.

    Thank you!

LOVE that idea! I will definitely have to try a lower fat option! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve read you can make sweetened condensed milk by soaking milk with raisins overnight (then drain raisins). Maybe this would work for a less sugar version.

I think the Kentucky whiskey would work great! Good luck and let me know how it turns out! ๐Ÿ™‚

So excited to try this! I just scoured my liquor cabinet to see if I could make it today- I have Kentucky whiskey (Makers) and Canadian Whiskey (Crown Royal). Think it’s possible to use either of those as a sub for the Irish Whiskey? Thank you for posting this- such a cool idea!!

Here are answers to more questions:

    – The tag around the bottle included the recipe for the Irish Cream.

    – I would match the expiration date of the irish cream to the milk used. Honestly, generally mine is consumed way before. ๐Ÿ™‚

    – In regards to the coffee, I use the actual coffee from my coffeemaker in the morning. I generally make really strong coffee, so I will use that which has a nice, deep coffee flavor. If the coffee you have is a little on the weaker side, you can always add a bit more if you want a more pronounced coffee flavor.

    – The bottle can be found here:

    Thanks and talk soon!

How soon after mixing do you suppose it should be consumed? I’m thinking just follow the expiration of the milk?

  23. Dane Morgan | 7th Jan 12

Where did you find the bottle? Please say there is an online source!

  24. Christy | 6th Jan 12

Under “strong coffee” do you mean ground beans? Or do you mean already-made liquid coffee? Just want to make sure I totally understand. This sounds amazing! Thanks for posting!

I have never made a non alcoholic version of this, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be done.

I would recommend mixing all the ingredients, minus the whisky, and if it is still too thick, add some milk to thin in out. You could also add a bit more coffee and some milk to thin in out as well. Good luck!

  26. glaucia | 5th Jan 12

do you have an non-alcoholic version of this??

  27. glaucia | 5th Jan 12

are you able to do a non-alcoholic version of this??

Can’t wait till next year to make but… what was on the gift card around the bottle?
    Ingredients and recipe?
    Thanks Cathy

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Here are the answers to some of the questions:

Sugar Substitute: I have never made this recipe with sugar substitute and I am not sure how it would turn out. Since one of the main ingredients is sweetened, condensed milk which is loaded with sugar I would probably be not inclined to try it since I can’t think of a good, sugar-free substitute for the condensed milk.

How much does the recipe make? The recipe makes approximately 30 ounces, or almost 4 cups.

The bottle: I got mine at either Pier 1 Imports or at Cost Plus. I live in Seattle and these are stores locally. I went to Cost Plus and found one online that looks very similar. Here is the link:
    http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4302061

Hope you are all having a great 2012 so far! ๐Ÿ™‚

This would make a lovely gift, indeed. Though, I’d have to keep a little for myself, too, because it looks just too delicious to give it all away. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  35. Lipstick Blogger | 19th Jan 10

Beyond embarrassed! So sorry for the confusion. Obviously a few typos there. Originally I tried the recipe with both cream and almond extract and found the following – cream made the liqueur too thick for me. The sweetened condensed milk combined with milk created just the right consistency – thick and delicious, but not overly heavy. I also found that the almond extract did nothing for the recipe either. Thanks so much!

  36. mscwht | 19th Jan 10

Can’t find heavy cream or vanilla extract in list of ingredients, but I would love to give the recipe a try. Can you help me out? thanks

  37. HutchScout | 19th Jan 10

Very cool idea! Just two questions:

    1) ingredients list “strong coffee” while the recipe says “instant coffee”

    2) recipe says to add almond extract but it isn’t listed under ingredients to say how much.

    Thanks!
